How Windows Hyper-V and Boost IT saved a local marketing company
The Problem
A local marketing company came to us wanting to resolve some “unresolvable” Windows Server 2008 critical update issues. The problem is that the server was running on hardware that was out of date and warranty, both of which are huge risks for a production server that your company production revolves around. To add to the complexity, the server was running a legacy application that was custom developed to run their mission-critical primary line-of-business application, and it would only run on a 32-bit version of Windows Server 2008 Standard.
The Windows Hyper-V Solution
Boost IT came in, set up a Windows Hyper-V Virtual Server, installed a new Dell server running Windows Server 2012 R2, converted the out-of-date physical server to a virtual machine and migrated the virtual machine to the new hardware with minimal down time. There was no need to reinstall software or the custom-developed legacy line-of-business application.
The Result
- New Dell Hardware backed by a 4-Hour Response Warranty
- Legacy Application continued to run on the 32-bit operating system without reinstalling software
- Minimal down time, much less than if a fresh installation was performed, saving money and time
Why Windows Hyper-V?
Virtualization technologies help our clients lower costs and deliver greater agility and economies of scale. Either as a stand-alone product or an integrated part of Windows Server, Hyper-V is a leading virtualization platform for today and sets the foundation for easier transformation to cloud computing. Read our blog post about how virtualization can help your business.
With Hyper-V, it is now easier than ever for organizations to take advantage of the cost savings of virtualization, and make the optimum use of server hardware investments by consolidating multiple server roles as separate virtual machines that are running on a single physical machine. Clients can use Hyper-V to efficiently run multiple operating systems, Windows, Linux, and others, in parallel, on a single server. Windows Server 2012 R2 extends this with more features, greater scalability and further inbuilt reliability mechanisms.
